This is a collection of rare and hard-to-find Bible study materials for the serious minded, hungry-hearted students of Scripture, as well as important selections for the Christian home.

We are often asked to recommend books. The requests come from believers who hunger for material with substance. Here is a collection, which in our opinion, are the best books in print. Most of these books are "unknown" to the members of the Body of Christ at large. And most are not available at your local "Christian" bookstore. These books are available from Pilkington & Sons.

God Gave Wine: What the Bible Says About Alcohol (#5768) by Kenneth L. Gentry Jr.  "Do not suppose that abuses are eliminated by destroying the object which is abused. Man can go wrong with wine and women. Shall we then prohibit and abolish women?" – Martin Luther

For the last 300 years Americans have been taught that biblical teaching forbids the drinking of alcoholic beverages. But does it? In this greatly and expanded version of his controversial book, The Christian and Alcoholic Beverages, Gentry takes a thorough look at the issue, concluding that Scripture allows wine to be consumed both for health and pleasure – but in moderation. By careful lexical, exegetical and theological examination, God Gave Wine demonstrates from the Bible the error of those who demand either prohibition or abstention. With the backdrop of Psalm 104, Gentry shows that wine is God’s blessing to man. 168pp PB $19.95

Heaven’s Embassy: The Divine Plan & Purpose of the Home (#5675) by Clyde L. Pilkington, Jr. The home is central to all of God’s dealings with man throughout the course of time. It is His Divine “institution” and “organization” upon the earth; and for the believer, it is the Embassy of Heaven. An embassy is “the residence or office of an ambassador.” Since the believer is an ambassador of the Lord Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5:14-21), his home is thus the Divine Embassy of heavenly ministry. Pauline ministry is centered in the homes of believers. This is even the true sphere of the Body of Christ; for this reason our apostle speaks of “church in thy house.” This book doesn’t focus upon the external specifics of the ministry of Heaven’s Embassy (such as hospitality); that will be saved for another volume. Instead, it looks at the inner-workings of the Embassy itself; focusing upon its very nature and internal purpose and function. 250 pp. PB $19.95

Inescapable Love of God, The (#1814) by Thomas Talbott. Part II sets forth the positive case for his contention that universalism is a plain teaching of the Bible. And finally, Part III explores some of the logical inconsistencies in competing theological systems. PB 223 pages $29.95

Miller's Church History (#4455) by Andrew Miller (1810-1883). Including the Original "Last Chapter" Written in 1880, this is one of the best and most comprehensive overviews of church history, from Bible times to the mid-19th century.

Miller writes: “I have aimed at more than mere history. It has been my desire to connect with it Christ and His Word, so that the reader may receive the truth and blessing, through grace, to his soul.” Most histories tend to be overly preoccupied with all the evils, controversies, abuses, and heresies of the past. Without ignoring the reality of these, Andrew Miller, in striking contrast, focuses his effort on tracing out, even in the darkest hour, “the silver line of God’s grace in true Christians.”

Several unique features of this book include:

-     a look at how quickly the early church departed from Biblical truth and practices; a warning to those who like to quote the so-called “church fathers.”

-     the origin of the clergy/laity distinction; including its more subtle Protestant form.

-     the origin of “church” religious system.

-     the root causes of many evil doctrines and how the truth was preserved in conflict.

If you consider yourself a student of history then your education is incomplete without this volume. If you’ve never read a book on Church history, then get this one and see for yourself the awesome wonder of God’s sustaining grace in vessels of clay! Who said Church History wasn’t interesting? 1202p HB $39.95

One Purpose of God, The: An Answer to the Doctrine of Eternal Punishment (#1816) J. Bonda. It has been taught that the vast majority of humankind will suffer eternal punishment. But is this teaching biblical? The author scrutinizes tradition and Scripture -- especially Paul's letter to the Romans -- and concludes that the Bible  shows no trace of supporting the doctrine of eternal damnation. On the contrary, they tell us that God wants to save all people and that he will not rest until that goal has been achieved. PB 278 pages $29.95
Our Great Commission: What Is It? by C. R. Stam. A compelling, look at the current commission for the Body of Christ and how it differs with the so called "Great Commission". 142pp. PB #3335; $9.95

Pagan Christianity: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices (#3106) by Frank Viola & George Barna. Revised, Enlarged, and now in hardback! Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church every Sunday morning? Have you ever asked yourself any of the following questions: Why do we "dress up" for church? Why does the pastor preach a sermon every Sunday? Why do we have pulpits and pews? Why do we have church buildings, steeples, choirs, and seminaries? Where did these things come from? This book proposes that most of what we Christians do in our churches has no root in the Scriptures! It rather has its origin in pagan culture. As shocking as that sounds, Viola proves his point by documenting every claim he makes. Fully footnoted, Pagan Christianity is the first book ever penned that documents the entire story of our modern church practices. If you are a Christian who is content with status quo "churchianity," then you will not want to read this book. It is reserved for those who are ready to embark on an eye-opening venture that challenges every aspect of their church experience. (Now available again!)  Revised, Expanded, 293 page.
